The week that was: Energies a go-go!

What a week that was! Between multiple strong solar flares, a super new moon, solar eclipse and Equinox, it feels like we haven't been able to catch our breath.

You may have felt like more things than usual were jam-packed into your schedule this past week, meanwhile the clock was accelerated making it feel like we were running on the go constantly! That said, I noticed that anytime I thought "Actually, I don't want to rush. I'm really enjoying what I'm doing right now" it is as if time slowed down and expanded a bit allowing a much more comfortable and joyful experience.

The energies are fast right now, there is no doubt about it. Yet I'm being shown that scene from the movie Lucy, where she is standing in the middle of Times Square. Everyone is rushing around, but with a wave of the hand she can slow the scene down. If only it were that easy, but we definitely have the ability to feel something similar to this. When we take a moment to stop and breathe, it is like we press pause on all of our hectic to do lists and errands, and step out of time for a minute.

That may mean literally taking a minute, in between being ready to rush out the door, and stepping outside your door just stop, take a minute, or even 30 seconds. Close your eyes. Breathe. That 30 seconds or a minute can be just as effective as a long meditation because time doesn't really exist. It can make the difference between feeling pushed and stretched all day, to feeling a bit calmer, less anxious, more centred and clearer to take on the day.

It is becoming increasingly important to take this time for ourselves. Sometimes this means re-arranging your calendar to say you know, I just can't fit all of this in today/this week. I am going to re-schedule these things and instead take an afternoon/this evening/this Sunday to just catch up with myself and re-charge. Saying yes to yourself can be hard because it often means saying no to a commitment or something that needs doing, but we are no good to anyone when we feel depleted and frazzled.

So as we move into this last week of March make a commitment to yourself to say yes to yourself more often. To stop, breathe and re-charge more regularly - be it a minute here and there every day, or an afternoon not obligated to be anywhere on a weekend.

These energy waves are like a tidal wave, moving us faster and faster forward. That is not going to stop anytime soon. We can't control those waves, but we can learn to ride them in a way that feels exhilarating when we feel up to the go go pace, yet know how to go within when we need to bunker down for a break.

How has your week been?

Equinox: honouring birth and death

September 23 is always a special day for our family. It’s the anniversary of my mum’s passing, and my partner Christian’s birthday. People sometimes ask is it strange to have those two things on the same day. I always say no, it more feels like a poignant reminder of the cycle of life.  People are being born every day, and people leave this Earth every day. Experiencing the death of someone close to you often makes you have a stronger connection to life and living, as you truly realise that your time here is not forever. So this annual honouring of a birth and a death is really a simultaneous honouring and celebration of life.
Quite fittingly, it co-incides with the Equinox when day and night are equal in length. I like this energetic influence, adding to the reminder that on this see-saw of life we can find a harmony and balance when we look at the value of all things rather than putting them in categories of ‘good’ and ‘bad’.  The Equinox asks us to respect both sides of the see-saw: winter has a purpose, grief can be cleansing and transformational.
Equinox and all of Nature also teaches us that life keeps moving, all the time. Equinox only lasts 24 hours before the days start getting longer (or shorter depending on which hemisphere you’re in).  We are shown that nothing lasts forever so appreciate what you have while you have it. We are also shown that no matter how bad things look or feel, ‘this too shall pass’. Spring always follows winter, and the sun always rises even after the darkest of nights.
Our mum had a big heart, and now in the non-physical I know she has even bigger wings, ready to help anyone who asks just as she did in life. One of her greatest wishes was to make her healings ‘bigger, bigger’, and so most years on this day I say to everyone who needs it: if you need a mum hug, or some healing vibes from someone who had a knack of never judging anyone, ask for Miki upstairs. She’s the one with all the jingly jewellery, giggling away.

Equinox: Time for Balance

I love March Equinox! It's the start of a new astrological year and always has a 'new chapter in the air' feel about it whether you are experiencing Autumn or Spring.

The past month has had a very 'on pause' feel about it as we've experienced Mercury still in the retrograde shadow not to mention Mars and Saturn switched to 'internal' mode as they too are retrograde. Yet this 'on-pause' time is good for us. It is a reminder to stop, re-flect, re-charge and have a re-think about how you are using your energy, what is working for you in your life, and what is draining you. Too often we get stuck in auto-pilot and don't break from our routine until a crisis of some kind gives us a wake up call, but we don't have to wait for (or invite!) a crisis to take a deeper look at the way in which we are living our life.

Equinox happens twice a year, March 21 and Sep 23, when the day and night are of equal duration. We naturally feel to bring more balance to our lives around this time, which is why we often find ourselves clearing our physical, mental and emotional space during this period.

How are you all feeling?

Happy Equinox!

Happy Autumn Equinox to all those in the Southern Hemisphere and Happy Spring Equinox to everyone in the Northern Hemisphere! Equinox always tends to bring a feeling of harmony and balance. Day and Night are the same length on both sides of the globe during the Autumn/Spring Equinoxes, with a 12 hour day experienced on every place on Earth. Down Under our days are now going to start getting shorter as we approach winter, while our friends in the Northern hemisphere are now going to get longer days as you move toward Summer.

Mother Nature reminds us that everything has a perfect order even when we can't understand it, and everything has a way of balancing out, somehow, someway, eventually. This day of balance reminds me of the quote 'Everything is okay in the end, and if it's not okay it's not the end.'
