Tips and tools for getting centred and connected

People often ask for ideas on how to get centred, and feel more connected to their inner guidance. I often include ideas among different posts, but I thought it would be easier to put all the main ones in one place.

Here are some ideas and tips to use on a daily basis. Choose whatever works and resonates most with you!

You can say any or all of the following. Feel free to tweak words, add to or change to make it feel right for you!

"I am filled with love, surrounded by love, protected by love and guided by love"

Imagine it as you say it. I see a column of light coming from the Source of All, entering me, filling me, expanding out to surround me, protecting me like a big egg, and guiding me. You may see it differently, or choose to see it in a total other way!

"I am connected to my higher self, highest source of truth, love and light, and to the core of Mother Earth."

I imagine a column of light going up from my centre, up up up to the highest source, and down to the centre of the Earth. You may have your own idea of what the higher source is, or have no conscious definite knowing of what that is - just ask that it be the highest source for you and trust you don't have to consciously know what that is in order for it to happen.

"I am aligned with my best possible self, best possible reality and best possible movement forward on all levels: physical, mental, emotional, spiritual, cellular, DNA, ancestral and etheric, and all the chakras."

Again, feel free to add, change, delete anything to make it feel right for you.

"Thank you for my health, thank you for my partner, family, friends, work, income, home...etc"

A daily appreciation makes you feel good, reminds you of what you have, and opens the door to that continuing and expanding.

I make all of the above part of my daily meditation. It doesn't have to be a big sit down event (although a sit down meditation is of course more beneficial!). Sometimes I don't make the time to do that, so I just say the above things, kind of like brushing your teeth on the run! It just takes a minute, but it will make a huge difference to how you feel.

Meditation: On the note of meditation, closing your eyes and focusing on your breath as it goes in and out of your nose is one of the best ways I know to clear your mind, get centred and connected. Whether you do it for one minute, ten minutes, half an hour or more is up to you! Highly recommended to do daily, especially if you are feeling frazzled and scattered!

Journalling is one of the best ways I know how to receive guidance from your energy and higher wisdom. Know that you can ask questions and talk to your inner aspects and feelings. Give them names: Angry Anna or Frustrated Fred for example! Trust what comes. At first it will feel like you are making it up, but the more you do it, the more natural it will feel. Saying one or more of the above affirmations first will help to make sure that your guidance comes from a good place that is in alignment with your highest self. (Or you can just say: I ask that any guidance received is in alignment with my highest truth, love, light and potential).

Stay in the Present: When you are in the present, your 'hose' to your highest source is straight as opposed to twisted (which it becomes when we turn our neck to worry about the past or fear the future). You want your 'hose' straight so that all you need comes more easefully to you be it guidance, inspiration, synchronicities, abundance, or something physical you need. Appreciating what is around you throughout the day is brilliant for bringing your focus back to the present moment, as is focusing on your breath when you feel yourself worrying and stressing.

Your thoughts create your reality: Yes they do. Pay attention to how you are feeling. Notice what your thoughts are if you are feeling not great, and adjust your thoughts. Change that inner dialogue so it reflects and acts as if all you want is already here. Turn the channel of your inner movies if they are playing scenes you do not want to live! Read some Abraham-Hicks or Florence Scovel Shinn to really get how simple and powerful our thoughts and feelings are.  We truly do attract, or push away, so much of what is available to us.

Follow those inner nudges: Guidance doesn't usually come in a loud booming voice with a ten step plan! It most often comes in small, inner nudges that may not make logical sense, and may not immediately feel connected to your question. You may feel guided to get in touch with someone you haven't talked to in a while, buy a magazine or newspaper you don't usually get, go to a cafe or the beach. I call these Hansel and Gretel cookie crumbs that end up leading us somewhere we didn't expect. Those are the things that often lead us to our dream home, job or soulmate, in the most unexpected of ways. Bigger nudges include leaving that job, doing that course, taking that trip, having that conversation with your partner. Most of us don't have a problem hearing our intuition. Our issue has been that we ignore and avoid it due to fear or busy-ness, or we don't trust it. Start listening to your self, and following those nudges.

So whether you choose to do all of the above or just one thing, know that there are so many tools available that only require our presence, awareness and attention.

Hope this list of tools has helped!

Venus Direct, Farewell Snake and Welcome Horse!

Video Version with Commentary is here.

As Venus prepares to go direct and we say goodbye to the Year of the Snake, today is a great day to ask: What has the past couple of months (Venus) or past year (Snake) been trying to help me shed/let go of/see more clearly/step into without my old fears and beliefs?
You may have found yourself going over and over old ground again and again over this time period as Life has called you to strip yourself of anything that is not in alignment with the true, real, naked, transparent, authentic YOU.
When the same situation/pattern keeps repeating or the same name/person from the past keeps re-appearing it is Life's way of asking: Have you received the message of this Story yet? It doesn't always mean there is more digging and clearing to be done. Old patterns and beliefs or past relationships almost always surface as we make a quantum leap decision and inner commitment to enter a New Story. Their re-appearance is Life asking you one final time...are you done yet with this Story? Your response can be as easy as: I say Yes to a New Story by saying No to this Old Story.
Other times a repeating scenario means some unfinished business or unhealed energy within still needs to be looked at. You will know this is the case if it keeps recurring no matter what you say or do. I have long been a major advocate of journaling to get to the root of what any recurring issue is trying to tell you, although artwork and crayon drawing are just as powerful and super effective for getting you out of your Head. The latter tools are something I’ve been personally using more and more in conjunction with journaling.*
You have a direct line to the content of your energy fields. You can ask your Self a question and expect to receive some form of insight as an answer. Answers don’t necessarily come in the neat package your Mind would prefer.  They come via analogies, images, feelings, and conversations with your inner aspects and archetypes who have so much to tell you about your Self. Your main job is to take the time to ask, to sit quietly and receive what comes, and to trust it without thinking “I am making this up.”
Sometimes we need help seeing our inner world clearly, and that’s when it is beneficial to have a session with some sort of Holistic Facilitator – not so they do the work for you, but they can hand you a torch so that you can do your inner and outer work in a more empowered way and find your own Light.
Which brings us to this New Year – the Year of using this Light we have found within us, with the help of the go-getter, strong, courageous, forward-moving without inner or outer clutter in the way – the Year of the Horse.

The Snake has stripped us as bare as we allowed, and helped us shed as many layers of our old skins as we could take. The Horse likes a light load. She likes to run free, without restriction. She could just as easily be a He of course, but as the Feminine Power energy roars to life within us, regardless of our gender, I think we’re going to get a taste this year of just what Grounded Divine Feminine Power really looks and feels like. Giddy up!

*For a very powerful journey through your subconscious using journaling and artwork/crayon drawing prompts, I highly recommend this 5 week online course A Return to Self.

Knock Knock, it's the Past calling

The past feels to be knocking on a lot of people's doors at the moment in the form of memories, dreams, old emotions you haven't felt in a long time, aspects you thought you had long buried, and people you have long not had contact with. Whenever the past (or anything really!) knocks like this, there is a reason although the reason is never usually what it seems to be on the surface.

The emotions being triggered can leave us feeling like someone has dragged us backward into some murky time that we really would rather not visit again, yet it is very beneficial to just bite the bullet and confront this energy, as otherwise it can make us feel like we're going to implode mentally and/or emotionally, and even affect our state of health physically.

Have a seat with this part of you imagining it as a personality (be it an intense emotion you've been feeling, or a health symptom or an energy influence) and try one of the following: Journal with it, asking it some questions or meditate and do the same, trust the dialogue that comes from this; get out your crayons or paints and draw whatever comes to you; or have a conversation with a conscious friend to help give you clarity if you need extra support.

This isn't about doing more digging. This is about consciously working with the energy waves that we are swimming in these days, and consciously SEEING what they are wanting to show us (which is more of our selves). The waves are taking us to new heights, and in the process aspects of ourselves are being transformed. This is happening with or without our conscious input.

Our conscious input simply helps us move through the waves with greater understanding and thus ease, and helps the waves move through us with fewer restrictions. The irony is that consciousness goes hand in hand with increased sensitivity, so of course you will also FEEL things more acutely which is not easy - but understanding does make it more easeful.

Checking your Emails from Your Self

Wouldn’t it be great if you could get daily emails from your inner self, soul, energetic aspects and past life selves? Imagine if these daily emails let you know what a certain issue is all about, why a particular pattern keeps recurring, what you need to do to let something in, or shift something in your life?
Imagine if you could get daily emails from your physical cells letting you know why a health issue has manifested or whether some of your beliefs have actually been inherited via your genes from your parents, grandparents or great-grandparents?
Well guess what? You can receive these daily emails. The only thing is, you have to show up and be kind of like your own ‘secretary taking dictation’. Our spiritual technology hasn’t yet got to the stage where we can wake up, press a button, and out comes our daily report of where our personal energy is at! So, this is where a journal comes in handy.
Some people think that journaling is writing about what happened today, like the sort of diary you kept as a kid. And if it’s that for you, and you enjoy it, great! However, journaling can be so much more. For myself it has been one of the most powerful and effective tools I’ve used to uncover the roots of issues, heal old wounds, reveal helpful insights and gain clarity.
It sounds like a cliché, but it is really true that within us we hold all the knowledge and wisdom we need to get through life. This sounds like a pretty vague or mystical concept, but it starts to make sense when you realise that we are made up of multiple layers of energetic fields. Those fields include our thoughts, beliefs, physical cells, ancestral history, emotions, feelings, memories, soul potential, past experiences and a myriad of soul aspects and energy centres; your inner child, masculine energy, feminine energy, all the chakra’s, not to mention our connection to the collective consciousness, and to physical and non-physical soul family.
All of this provides a wealth of knowledge, wisdom and guidance for us to draw on, however we definitely weren’t taught in school how to tap into it – nor even that it’s possible to do so.  We all have the ability to do this, it just takes practice much like anything else in life.
When you journal with a higher intention, you are essentially letting yourself get out of your own way and stepping aside so that the answers and clarity you need can come to you. Your subconscious gets a chance to speak to you directly, as opposed to trying to get your attention in ways that are potentially sabotaging your relationships, work, health and other life areas.
Someone asked me recently is it like automatic writing or should you stick to your focus? Definitely the former. More often than not, your journaling will take you somewhere completely unexpected. You show up thinking a certain person is the problem and end up writing about something that happened when you were 6 or 16. You might show up seeking relief and clarity as to a current emotion that is uncomfortable and end up having an amazing conversation with a part of you that has felt ignored and unloved. So much healing can happen in one journaling session.
Sometimes we’ve hidden a part of ourselves away so well that it takes pages of journaling before we finally start getting to the root of an issue. Many if not most of our issues are multi-layered so we might find ourselves writing about something we thought we covered ten or a hundred times already.  As we open up to more of ourselves, likewise we also expand our ability to go deeper into ourselves, gaining deeper insights about the same situations.
How to start if you are new to this? If you don’t know where to start, an easy question to start with is: What do I need to know about .....?  If you have a very specific issue you can ask things like: What part of me wants this situation? It’s confronting to ask this because most people would answer “None of me wants this!” Okay you can believe that and continue to feel stuck. However it is so much more empowering to consider, “Hmm, well if a part of me does want this then perhaps I should go find out what this part of me is, and why it wants this!’ It is very empowering to dialogue with the various inner aspects and energetic parts of yourself that come up.
It is helpful, powerful and entertaining to name issues and feelings you want to address. Somehow it is much easier to talk to Sammy Sadness or Fred Frustrated than it is to journal to your general Self. If you’ve been sitting in a feeling for a while, go in, have a chat to it, ask it what it wants to tell you.
There is no right or wrong way to journal, there’s no step by step rulebook to follow. The main thing is to trust what comes. Don’t get caught up in “I’m making this up” or “Where is this coming from?” By all means, if you want to be sure you aren’t receiving information from sources that aren’t good for you say a little prayer or affirmation beforehand. Ask that you receive guidance from your highest sources of truth, love and light, and that all information is aligned with your best possible self and reality. From there, let the pen take you where it wants to take you.

Riding the River in Whichever Way you Choose

We are in such a different energetic situation to last year. Last year we were being affected by near-constant waves of energy thanks to the Solar Flares. They acted like the contractions of labour, bringing up from within us all the last remnants of whatever needed to be released before we entered a new level of ourselves in this new evolutionary cycle. Now that we're in the new cycle, it is like the dam walls have burst allowing us to ride the wave into parts of the river we haven't accessed before.

In any given day, and in any given moment, it is our choice as to which part of the river we are swimming in. We spend time in the old part and the new part and neither is actually better or worse. In the higher realms, high vibrational souls go 'down' to 'lower' levels to help souls go 'up' the levels all the time. Sometimes the souls don't want to go 'up' because they are comfortable where they are, or they are needed where they are or they are not yet ready to go 'up'. Try not to judge where you are or where anyone else is, because wherever you are you have landed there because on some level some part of your vibrational reality was attracted to that level.

If you don't like it, take a minute to get conscious and ask yourself ok, why am I here in this part of the river, in this situation, in this pattern? Your soul might have an answer for you completely different to the one you were expecting. You can ask your Soul these kinds of things in meditation or via journalling. Journalling is a great way to check your emails from your own Soul/Self!
