Tips and tools for getting centred and connected

People often ask for ideas on how to get centred, and feel more connected to their inner guidance. I often include ideas among different posts, but I thought it would be easier to put all the main ones in one place.

Here are some ideas and tips to use on a daily basis. Choose whatever works and resonates most with you!

You can say any or all of the following. Feel free to tweak words, add to or change to make it feel right for you!

"I am filled with love, surrounded by love, protected by love and guided by love"

Imagine it as you say it. I see a column of light coming from the Source of All, entering me, filling me, expanding out to surround me, protecting me like a big egg, and guiding me. You may see it differently, or choose to see it in a total other way!

"I am connected to my higher self, highest source of truth, love and light, and to the core of Mother Earth."

I imagine a column of light going up from my centre, up up up to the highest source, and down to the centre of the Earth. You may have your own idea of what the higher source is, or have no conscious definite knowing of what that is - just ask that it be the highest source for you and trust you don't have to consciously know what that is in order for it to happen.

"I am aligned with my best possible self, best possible reality and best possible movement forward on all levels: physical, mental, emotional, spiritual, cellular, DNA, ancestral and etheric, and all the chakras."

Again, feel free to add, change, delete anything to make it feel right for you.

"Thank you for my health, thank you for my partner, family, friends, work, income, home...etc"

A daily appreciation makes you feel good, reminds you of what you have, and opens the door to that continuing and expanding.

I make all of the above part of my daily meditation. It doesn't have to be a big sit down event (although a sit down meditation is of course more beneficial!). Sometimes I don't make the time to do that, so I just say the above things, kind of like brushing your teeth on the run! It just takes a minute, but it will make a huge difference to how you feel.

Meditation: On the note of meditation, closing your eyes and focusing on your breath as it goes in and out of your nose is one of the best ways I know to clear your mind, get centred and connected. Whether you do it for one minute, ten minutes, half an hour or more is up to you! Highly recommended to do daily, especially if you are feeling frazzled and scattered!

Journalling is one of the best ways I know how to receive guidance from your energy and higher wisdom. Know that you can ask questions and talk to your inner aspects and feelings. Give them names: Angry Anna or Frustrated Fred for example! Trust what comes. At first it will feel like you are making it up, but the more you do it, the more natural it will feel. Saying one or more of the above affirmations first will help to make sure that your guidance comes from a good place that is in alignment with your highest self. (Or you can just say: I ask that any guidance received is in alignment with my highest truth, love, light and potential).

Stay in the Present: When you are in the present, your 'hose' to your highest source is straight as opposed to twisted (which it becomes when we turn our neck to worry about the past or fear the future). You want your 'hose' straight so that all you need comes more easefully to you be it guidance, inspiration, synchronicities, abundance, or something physical you need. Appreciating what is around you throughout the day is brilliant for bringing your focus back to the present moment, as is focusing on your breath when you feel yourself worrying and stressing.

Your thoughts create your reality: Yes they do. Pay attention to how you are feeling. Notice what your thoughts are if you are feeling not great, and adjust your thoughts. Change that inner dialogue so it reflects and acts as if all you want is already here. Turn the channel of your inner movies if they are playing scenes you do not want to live! Read some Abraham-Hicks or Florence Scovel Shinn to really get how simple and powerful our thoughts and feelings are.  We truly do attract, or push away, so much of what is available to us.

Follow those inner nudges: Guidance doesn't usually come in a loud booming voice with a ten step plan! It most often comes in small, inner nudges that may not make logical sense, and may not immediately feel connected to your question. You may feel guided to get in touch with someone you haven't talked to in a while, buy a magazine or newspaper you don't usually get, go to a cafe or the beach. I call these Hansel and Gretel cookie crumbs that end up leading us somewhere we didn't expect. Those are the things that often lead us to our dream home, job or soulmate, in the most unexpected of ways. Bigger nudges include leaving that job, doing that course, taking that trip, having that conversation with your partner. Most of us don't have a problem hearing our intuition. Our issue has been that we ignore and avoid it due to fear or busy-ness, or we don't trust it. Start listening to your self, and following those nudges.

So whether you choose to do all of the above or just one thing, know that there are so many tools available that only require our presence, awareness and attention.

Hope this list of tools has helped!
