June 2009 Monthly Visions: Follow the Path of your Soul wherever it may Lead you
I am always just as surprised as anyone reading these words to find out what is to come. Whenever I write, be it my monthly visions, books, articles, course content or soul sessions I have no idea what is going to come out onto the page until I start writing, and even then it feels more like I’m a Personal Assistant taking dictation, transcribing words as they flow through me from some source higher than me.
I write as I live my life, in complete trust that this higher source (that I believe is a combination of my higher self, my guides and the Creator/Universe) is guiding me and looking out for me. All I need to do is listen to my inner self when it nudges me “Write the Monthly Visions now”, “Book that plane ticket”, “Send that email”. I faithfully show up or take the required action, usually not knowing what the outcome will be, but knowing for sure that if I take one step at a time, as guided moment by moment, I will be following the path being guided by my Soul, and that’s good enough for me. Of course that doesn’t mean that I’m without the regular human emotions wondering what’s going to happen or how it’s going to happen, but over time, and as the Universe shows up for me time and again, doubt and fear has pretty much given way to curiosity and amazement.
Usually the ‘reward’ of following the guidance of one’s Soul is an unexpected one. I can’t count how many times I’ve had a ‘Sorry but I have to pass on this occasion’ from editors, agents and publishers I’ve submitted work to over the years. Hundreds. It happens all the time to all writers, and to anyone in the creative industry. It happens all the time to all of us, whatever line of work or life situation we’re in. I believe in happy endings, and I absolutely believe we are here to create our dream life at this monumental time in humanity’s evolution. Yet I’ve also learned in my life that the road to happiness is usually filled with many twists and turns. These little bumps and detours are not there to discourage us. They are there for some beautiful reason often only seen in hindsight. Strengthening your resolve, instilling you with courage to keep going, understanding things from a higher perspective, making you stand strong and true to yourself in the face of people who don’t agree with you, developing humility, trust and appreciation for divine timing, all these reasons and more are disguised as delays and denials.
In these ‘Law of Attraction’ and ‘The Secret’ times, we are receiving a double sided coin. On the one hand more people now know we can be, do and have anything. On the other hand, if that which we want to be, do and have doesn’t appear in our lives pretty quickly we are easily disillusioned. I know there are many who doubt the ‘Law of Attraction’ message or worse, doubt the guidance coming from their own Soul. “Why would my Soul guide me to follow my passion, when all I’m receiving is failure?” “I’ve always felt I have a soulmate. Well where is he?”
My life journey has taught me that a successful outcome isn’t always about receiving a yes that you really want when you really want it, or having a door open that you only dreamed of in exactly the way you dreamed it (although it feels wonderful when these things happen), it is about the stuff that happens inside you when the yes doesn’t come (yet), or when the doors don’t open (yet). That is often the true test of our nature. In the face of hard times, closed doors and outcomes that look drastically different to what we were hoping for, how will we respond? Who we choose to be in those moments, tells us a lot about who we are choosing to be in general.
Having spent a lot of time in the US and surrounding countries over the past year I’ve seen and heard about a lot of people who, having lost their jobs, homes and livelihoods, have emerged out the other side with a greater connection to their emotional relationships, a better understanding of their priorities in life, a desire to live more simply and richly, often taking on new careers that may pay less but are much more fulfilling and much less stressful. Others are having the experience of finally daring to step up into their power, opening up to more success and abundance, appreciating it all the more so for having been through a lot to get there.
I don’t think these coming times are about hardship, I think they are here to fully shake us all into a greater appreciation for what we have, a greater trust in the mysterious way life works, a greater connection to the guidance of our Soul, and a greater allowance for letting go of how we think life should be, to let in the life that could be. For some that means developing greater humility. For others it means allowing more freedom, fun, joy and ease into your life. For some it means learning to live with less material objects, taking more time to turn inward. For others it means letting in more material comforts, and allowing yourself to be great. It is a time of balancing the scales, not so that we’re all the same, but so that we all can finally be wholly the fullness of who we really are. It’s time to pick up the scattered pieces of the parts of ourselves we have denied, and draw them back in.
This is a majorly powerful and profound process, and it ranges from feeling positively blissful to downright frustrating. The Universe and your own Soul is always guiding you and supporting you through this process, even when it doesn’t feel like it. Especially when it doesn’t feel like it! I remember a few years ago when I got back to Sydney after living in London. I was restless and wanted to go back to London. So, I filled in an application to do a Master’s degree over there and got into the program. Yet, when the time came to start booking my ticket, I felt the biggest ‘No’ inside me. I knew I couldn’t go yet for some strange reason. I postponed by 6 months. The time came, and again, it was like a wall was in front of me saying ‘No, you can’t go, not now.’ I was going out of my mind. Nothing was happening for me in Sydney and here I was with an invitation to study this fabulous program in London. If I postponed again that’s it, they couldn’t keep the position for me a third time. Yet my Soul was being very persistent. “No, not now”. It wasn’t coming from fear, it was just a very quiet, yet strong knowing that I was to stay in Sydney for the time being.
I declared, “Well if you want me to stay here you better show me some good reasons why I’m staying!” Things started moving slowly but surely. A short television presenting course came to my attention, so I did that. Then my guides told me it was time to start seeing clients again for in person sessions from a particular place, Namaste in Sydney. To you this might seem like normal advice for someone like me. But I have to admit, I had until that point exerted a lot of time and effort trying to push away my sessions work. When I left school I wanted to be a journalist. I wanted to change the world. If not a journalist, I wanted to work with the United Nations or something like that. What actually happened was I ended up working in the hotel industry in sales, marketing & pr until my mid-20’s, and then working in that same capacity with my sister who had developed her inspirational Mesha products. Whenever life felt a bit too ‘comfort zone’ I’d sell my car and go travel – Europe, India, Egypt, Mexico, the US, I just followed the guidance of my soul even if others thought I was crazy to keep leaving ‘safe and secure’ work.
At some point after I’d returned from India my sister Jelena and I developed Wakimbo, one of the first websites to offer journaling tips and exercises and a brand of specialised handmade journals created by Jel. I was using my life to write empowering and helpful information, and while I don’t remember earning much money during this time, it was very fulfilling. During the whole decade that was my 20’s I was often found giving random readings in the offices of my jobs, during travels and whenever someone asked. I even worked on and off at various healing centres and holistic festivals, always because of the soul nudges urging me to do it. Even though it came easily to me, and I genuinely felt humbled and fulfilled by every session I did because of the profound information that always came through, I never considered this my ‘real work’ of course because I wanted to be a writer or social activist of some kind. I felt I wasn’t using my brain to its full potential, and am someone who craves mental stimulation.
So it was exciting when I decided to go to university at age 29 and start a Communications degree. In the start of my 2nd year something didn’t feel right. I suspended my degree and discovered later that year that my mum had cancer. Because I had suspended my studies I was able to spend those precious 3 months back home caring for her with my 2 sisters. In those 3 months from diagnosis to her passing, I went through a crash course in embodying ‘everything happens for a reason’. I got back in touch with my physical human self having lived much of life in the intellectual and spiritual realms, and decided to suspend my degree for another year while I developed a chakra course and started a radio show. After that I went back to complete my degree but it seemed that the Universe always was one step ahead of me. My Soul said it was time to spend more time in Europe which had always felt very home-like to me (due to my Serbian background), not later, but right now, so I managed to get approved for an exchange program allowing me to complete my degree in London where I was able to do more media production and world-change subjects. I loved it!
I started working with the World Future Council over there and, funnily enough through our Wakimbo website, got invited to speak at the World Peace Congress. I was in my element. I had to return to Sydney for a visit, but knew I’d be back in London asap. Entry into the Masters degree confirmed it and would assure me a Visa for another year or two. You can imagine my complete confusion at suddenly being told by ‘they’ who have been my lifelong guides that it was in fact time to stay in Sydney and start giving sessions on a more full time basis. What the?!?
So I did, at first thinking this was just a temporary measure until whatever communications glitch that had obviously occurred in the higher realms was sorted out. They also told me to start offering email sessions, which I thought was completely crazy. “How am I going to tune into people I’m not seeing or even hearing on the phone?” Well, the email sessions flowed with my continued amazement. A couple of months into my work at Namaste I was driving to a meeting when I got the message “The person you are having a meeting with knows your soulmate”. Well this was unexpected. My soulmate, whoever he was, was an adventurer. A traveller. Surely I wouldn’t find him in my home city of Sydney?! By the end of the meeting we’d discovered we had a mutual friend - Christian, whom I was friends with about 13-14 years before, and dated briefly when I was about 20. He was living about 10 minutes from me in Sydney, and yes is a great traveller and adventurer as I’m sure you’ve gathered by our stories in these monthly updates. Yep, life and the guides work in mysterious ways.
Cut to 2008 and I am completely immersed in my life in Sydney. Work is going great. I am loving seeing clients, and writing articles. Christian and I are happy there surrounded by many super fabulous family and friends. My first book is about to come out. We’re planning to go to the US in the Northern Hemisphere summer. I feel I can breathe a sigh of relief – so this is happiness! My guides show me their next hand. Apparently we’re going to be gone longer than I think – 15 months longer to be exact. Where the money is going to come from I don’t know, but off we go into the unknown, telling our friends and family ‘See you in 15 months’.
On 23 June 2009 we will celebrate 1 year away and what a year it has been including everything from flying LA to Chile with a one way ticket and about $200 left in our bank account based on seeing a big BELIEVE sign on a roof, to manifesting a free car to use for a few months right when our rental died on us. I have no doubt in my mind that we will keep going for the entire 15 months. After that who knows? I’ve certainly learned that ‘God laughs when you’re busy making plans’. We will continue to follow the guidance of our Souls.
So what is the moral of this very long Monthly Visions story? I guess it’s to keep following that voice inside you, even when it makes no logical sense, even when you have no idea where you’re going or how you’re going to get there. When it diverts you in a direction other than the one you ‘planned’ on taking, consider that this unexpected direction is taking you exactly where you planned to go, albeit with very different scenery. I have to laugh because the one thing I always resisted – my ability to tune in to energy and download messages from Spirit and Higher Selves for my clients – has been the thing that has opened the door to all the things I’ve ever wanted to do. When I was little I said I’d be a teacher and write a book, and I have thanks to allowing myself to follow my Soul. As for the ambitions I had when I left school, I have become a journalist of sorts, and I am helping to change the world, and I am being a social activist, yet doing all those things in a way that is unique and right for who I really am inside, in a way that is so much more suited to who I really am than the route I thought I was going to take. Whenever my inner voice has said leave everything and go travel, I did. When it’s advised me to suspend a course or delay it, I have. I have done nothing how one ‘should’ do it, I have jumped into the abyss of the unknown time and time again, and my life path and career has been far from an orderly, neat, straight line. This nomadic, higgledy piggledy twisty turny life I’ve had has taken me to the life of my dreams, doing work I love while travelling with the one I love. My life experiences have been better than a PhD, teaching me more than I can express.
The Universe created a ‘Dana role’ especially for me, and it has a “Your name........role” especially for you. Believe in the ability of the ‘Great Mystery’ to do their job to help you fulfil this role. Your job is only to listen, trust and follow the journey life is wanting to take you on.

By the end of the meeting we’d discovered we had a mutual friend - Christian, whom I was friends with about 13-14 years before, and dated briefly when I was about 20. He was living about 10 minutes from me in Sydney, and yes is a great traveller and adventurer as I’m sure you’ve gathered by our stories in these monthly updates. Yep, life and the guides work in mysterious ways.
Cut to 2008 and I am completely immersed in my life in Sydney. Work is going great. I am loving seeing clients, and writing articles. Christian and I are happy there surrounded by many super fabulous family and friends. My first book is about to come out. We’re planning to go to the US in the Northern Hemisphere summer. I feel I can breathe a sigh of relief – so this is happiness! My guides show me their next hand. Apparently we’re going to be gone longer than I think – 15 months longer to be exact. Where the money is going to come from I don’t know, but off we go into the unknown, telling our friends and family ‘See you in 15 months’.
On 23 June 2009 we will celebrate 1 year away and what a year it has been including everything from flying LA to Chile with a one way ticket and about $200 left in our bank account based on seeing a big BELIEVE sign on a roof, to manifesting a free car to use for a few months right when our rental died on us. I have no doubt in my mind that we will keep going for the entire 15 months. After that who knows? I’ve certainly learned that ‘God laughs when you’re busy making plans’. We will continue to follow the guidance of our Souls.
So what is the moral of this very long Monthly Visions story? I guess it’s to keep following that voice inside you, even when it makes no logical sense, even when you have no idea where you’re going or how you’re going to get there. When it diverts you in a direction other than the one you ‘planned’ on taking, consider that this unexpected direction is taking you exactly where you planned to go, albeit with very different scenery. I have to laugh because the one thing I always resisted – my ability to tune in to energy and download messages from Spirit and Higher Selves for my clients – has been the thing that has opened the door to all the things I’ve ever wanted to do. When I was little I said I’d be a teacher and write a book, and I have thanks to allowing myself to follow my Soul. As for the ambitions I had when I left school, I have become a journalist of sorts, and I am helping to change the world, and I am being a social activist, yet doing all those things in a way that is unique and right for who I really am inside, in a way that is so much more suited to who I really am than the route I thought I was going to take. Whenever my inner voice has said leave everything and go travel, I did. When it’s advised me to suspend a course or delay it, I have. I have done nothing how one ‘should’ do it, I have jumped into the abyss of the unknown time and time again, and my life path and career has been far from an orderly, neat, straight line. This nomadic, higgledy piggledy twisty turny life I’ve had has taken me to the life of my dreams, doing work I love while travelling with the one I love. My life experiences have been better than a PhD, teaching me more than I can express.
The Universe created a ‘Dana role’ especially for me, and it has a “Your name........role” especially for you. Believe in the ability of the ‘Great Mystery’ to do their job to help you fulfil this role. Your job is only to listen, trust and follow the journey life is wanting to take you on.

May Monthly Visions: Mexico & Media Madness or Turn off the News and Tune in to your own ‘Higher Self’ Channel!
I’m in Playa del Carmen, Mexico (on the Caribbean side) where we’ve been for the last 6 weeks enjoying the wonderful energy here. As the fastest growing city in Mexico there is a real feeling of growth, expansion and entrepreneurship. Mexican people have a great attitude toward life, valuing family, food and fun above all else. They work with a smile on their face and don’t apologise for taking a siesta in the afternoon. They have the life-work balance thing sorted out! So we’ve been loving feeling like we’re in our own little Paradise on Earth, until.....
We started getting worried emails from home (Sydney, Australia). “Are you guys okay? Mexico is all over the news!” We turned on the news here to see what could be so huge as to be causing so much concern halfway across the world. The national Mexican news was reporting that a new flu virus had broken out. It was being called Swine Flu even though they were saying it could not be transferred by eating pork products. At this stage there was not a sense of panic, merely a warning to take the usual precautions eg if you are sick, stay home so you don’t spread your flu.
We received more emails, this time from friends in the US and UK “Are you okay? People are dying in Mexico!!” We turned on the US Cable News channel and sure enough they were reporting this situation in the most dramatic, (in my opinion) misinformed, panic-creating, fear-fuelling way possible.
As the days progressed it got worse with the global media going into full hysteria mode and Egypt announcing it wanted to order a culling of all pigs. Anyone with a cough or runny nose was suddenly under ‘swine flu suspicion’ and the US were reporting a death toll of 150+. To put things into perspective 250 000-500 000 people die annually from the seasonal flu or related illnesses, yet it was the rare media indeed that thought to mention that.
While I had no fear around the flu itself, the fear bombarding the country from the world really knocked my energy over for a couple of days. It was like this heavy, thick, nauseating feeling settling over the country like a blanket of smog. I was really mad at the media for their sensational inaccurate reporting and having seemingly zero care factor for the chaos they were generating. To help clear myself of all this energy I dove into the beautiful ocean here and splashed around in the water feeling like a dolphin and decided no matter what to stay in the vibration of love and joy. I had to take my own advice: the old reality is collapsing and as it does a lot of fear (and fear-fuelled situations) will come up – don’t get caught up in the demolition dust and don’t breathe it in! We have so much light on the planet now that any dust that comes up will soon settle, and when it does truth will be revealed.
Sure enough, at the time of writing the latest news from Mexican health officials is that only half of all suspected cases were actually swine flu (now called H1N1). Original death tolls ‘may have been inflated’ with official numbers at around 20. The World Health Organisation has asked for it to stop being called swine flu to save the poor pigs, and reporting that this flu may not be as serious as first thought and could even turn out to be similar to the common flu.
In the meantime, Mexico City shut down all bars, restaurants, cafe’s, gyms and movie theatres with some businesses in other cities following their lead. Every school in the country is closed. Planes are arriving empty and leaving full. The hotel industry in Cancun are claiming that they may lose $150 million as tourists are cancelling rooms and re-thinking their travel plans.
I’m not saying for one minute that we shouldn’t be informed, or that precautions shouldn’t be taken to protect our health and wellbeing. I just feel that the media handled this in a very irresponsible way, reporting with inaccurate facts and a completely imbalanced perspective, and in the meantime created more health, economic and social issues overnight than the flu itself!
Brace yourselves, because I think more situations like this are coming our way – and it is important to know why because it’s not for the reasons you may think. The pandemic wasn’t about flu, it was about fear.
Right now we have more Light on the planet than ever before. People are awakening, consciousness is increasing, truth is coming out. Anything not in alignment with our new reality is either collapsing or having to undergo rapid transformation. You can see this as you watch the finance, banking and auto industries scramble to meet higher standards of accountability and ethics. You have seen it I’m sure in your own lives as relationships, jobs and geographical locations are not what they were only a short time ago.
Together as a humanity we are making a giant leap from one way of being to another, from the old reality to the new. However the new reality exists on an entirely different vibration with an entirely different set of rules. We can’t take everything with us, and one of the things we definitely can’t take is Fear.
You may have found it quite frustrating and confusing when finally deciding to take your own quantum leap – be it committing to a new way of thinking or wanting to attract a new level of success, abundance or love, or trying to create some kind of change in your life – that every single doubt, fear or issue you have ever had related to that subject comes up. And not in a small way. No, they come up in large, flashing neon-lights, waving a banner so you can’t miss them. If this is happening to you, don’t take it as a sign to give up. Take it as the best sign ever that you are about to make the biggest quantum leap ever and every single thing in your vibratory field that isn’t aligned with that is jumping up and down to get your attention – because you can’t take them with you, and you have to let them go.
On a global level millions of people will look back at this past week and think that the media has a lot to answer for. More people will decide next time to seek alternative sources of news and better still, listen to their own good instincts about a situation. We are being trained to listen to our intuition and to trust that voice inside that says “This doesn’t sound like it’s true”, regardless of what some loud external voice is shouting at you. We will need that voice increasingly in the years ahead, because the process that is happening to us all personally is also happening globally. As the planet takes its quantum leap, any fears that we have held as a collective will come up. Any old reality groups, industries or organizations that flourish in climates of fear will have a few more last attempts at their old tactics I’m sure, but fewer people are buying what they’re selling – literally and energetically.
When you are tuned in to your own ‘higher self’ channel, you get a very strong signal inside when something you hear or read or watch is aligned with truth and when it is not. It’s not possible to be fully informed on every single issue out there right now, but it is possible to align with who you really are, and truly that is the best source of guidance you could have during this time.
Take time every day to connect with your higher self (aka your greater self, inner being, who you really are) either via journaling, meditating, playing, frolicking in the ocean like a dolphin, dancing, doing something you love to do or being creative, and your own higher self will soon be the first ‘news channel’ you turn to in any situation.

The national Mexican news was reporting that a new flu virus had broken out. It was being called Swine Flu even though they were saying it could not be transferred by eating pork products. At this stage there was not a sense of panic, merely a warning to take the usual precautions eg if you are sick, stay home so you don’t spread your flu.
We received more emails, this time from friends in the US and UK “Are you okay? People are dying in Mexico!!” We turned on the US Cable News channel and sure enough they were reporting this situation in the most dramatic, (in my opinion) misinformed, panic-creating, fear-fuelling way possible.
As the days progressed it got worse with the global media going into full hysteria mode and Egypt announcing it wanted to order a culling of all pigs. Anyone with a cough or runny nose was suddenly under ‘swine flu suspicion’ and the US were reporting a death toll of 150+. To put things into perspective 250 000-500 000 people die annually from the seasonal flu or related illnesses, yet it was the rare media indeed that thought to mention that.
While I had no fear around the flu itself, the fear bombarding the country from the world really knocked my energy over for a couple of days. It was like this heavy, thick, nauseating feeling settling over the country like a blanket of smog. I was really mad at the media for their sensational inaccurate reporting and having seemingly zero care factor for the chaos they were generating. To help clear myself of all this energy I dove into the beautiful ocean here and splashed around in the water feeling like a dolphin and decided no matter what to stay in the vibration of love and joy. I had to take my own advice: the old reality is collapsing and as it does a lot of fear (and fear-fuelled situations) will come up – don’t get caught up in the demolition dust and don’t breathe it in! We have so much light on the planet now that any dust that comes up will soon settle, and when it does truth will be revealed.
Sure enough, at the time of writing the latest news from Mexican health officials is that only half of all suspected cases were actually swine flu (now called H1N1). Original death tolls ‘may have been inflated’ with official numbers at around 20. The World Health Organisation has asked for it to stop being called swine flu to save the poor pigs, and reporting that this flu may not be as serious as first thought and could even turn out to be similar to the common flu.
In the meantime, Mexico City shut down all bars, restaurants, cafe’s, gyms and movie theatres with some businesses in other cities following their lead. Every school in the country is closed. Planes are arriving empty and leaving full. The hotel industry in Cancun are claiming that they may lose $150 million as tourists are cancelling rooms and re-thinking their travel plans.
I’m not saying for one minute that we shouldn’t be informed, or that precautions shouldn’t be taken to protect our health and wellbeing. I just feel that the media handled this in a very irresponsible way, reporting with inaccurate facts and a completely imbalanced perspective, and in the meantime created more health, economic and social issues overnight than the flu itself!
Brace yourselves, because I think more situations like this are coming our way – and it is important to know why because it’s not for the reasons you may think. The pandemic wasn’t about flu, it was about fear.
Right now we have more Light on the planet than ever before. People are awakening, consciousness is increasing, truth is coming out. Anything not in alignment with our new reality is either collapsing or having to undergo rapid transformation. You can see this as you watch the finance, banking and auto industries scramble to meet higher standards of accountability and ethics. You have seen it I’m sure in your own lives as relationships, jobs and geographical locations are not what they were only a short time ago.
Together as a humanity we are making a giant leap from one way of being to another, from the old reality to the new. However the new reality exists on an entirely different vibration with an entirely different set of rules. We can’t take everything with us, and one of the things we definitely can’t take is Fear.
You may have found it quite frustrating and confusing when finally deciding to take your own quantum leap – be it committing to a new way of thinking or wanting to attract a new level of success, abundance or love, or trying to create some kind of change in your life – that every single doubt, fear or issue you have ever had related to that subject comes up. And not in a small way. No, they come up in large, flashing neon-lights, waving a banner so you can’t miss them. If this is happening to you, don’t take it as a sign to give up. Take it as the best sign ever that you are about to make the biggest quantum leap ever and every single thing in your vibratory field that isn’t aligned with that is jumping up and down to get your attention – because you can’t take them with you, and you have to let them go.
On a global level millions of people will look back at this past week and think that the media has a lot to answer for. More people will decide next time to seek alternative sources of news and better still, listen to their own good instincts about a situation. We are being trained to listen to our intuition and to trust that voice inside that says “This doesn’t sound like it’s true”, regardless of what some loud external voice is shouting at you. We will need that voice increasingly in the years ahead, because the process that is happening to us all personally is also happening globally. As the planet takes its quantum leap, any fears that we have held as a collective will come up. Any old reality groups, industries or organizations that flourish in climates of fear will have a few more last attempts at their old tactics I’m sure, but fewer people are buying what they’re selling – literally and energetically.
When you are tuned in to your own ‘higher self’ channel, you get a very strong signal inside when something you hear or read or watch is aligned with truth and when it is not. It’s not possible to be fully informed on every single issue out there right now, but it is possible to align with who you really are, and truly that is the best source of guidance you could have during this time.
Take time every day to connect with your higher self (aka your greater self, inner being, who you really are) either via journaling, meditating, playing, frolicking in the ocean like a dolphin, dancing, doing something you love to do or being creative, and your own higher self will soon be the first ‘news channel’ you turn to in any situation.

Obama's Role in these Changing Times
Obama's Role in these Changing Times
Going by a few of the emails I've received, people are getting frustrated at Obama and his government for not fixing things fast enough, for not making our waters smooth again right now so we can get back to our normal lives. Well, as the movie says “We’re not in Kansas anymore Toto.” Enough of the masses collectively decided “We want change, we want a new reality. We are tired of how things have been.” So, the ship has sailed and I believe, is heading in the direction of creating a new reality for us all. But this isn’t going to happen overnight.
I don’t think it is Obama’s role to magically make the waves that are synonymous with great change disappear. Buckle your seats, because the sea IS going to get more stormy. This is how it always is as the Earth moves from one cycle to another. We can’t override nature and cyclic destiny, nor can Obama necessarily halt the process of labour (nor is it meant to halt). I do think it is his role to hold the ship as steady as possible, and while some of you reading this may not agree he is doing a good job, please remember this is a HUGE job! Also, I feel it is his destined job and when you are born to do something, you have inside you all you need to do it well.
I feel he can’t do this alone, and now more than ever we all have to play our part and sway in the direction in which we want to go to help the ship during its passage. Focus on the positive, focus on how you want your personal, and our collective, story to look in the years to come. Don’t try and hold on to what was – it is falling for a reason. Look ahead to the creation of something better.
Together we are birthing a new world, and birth is never an easy process – but it is one of the most amazing transformational experiences someone can go through. It is a blessing to be on Earth during these times of great change.

April 2009: This ‘Crisis’ can be a Good thing.
Did you know that the Chinese symbol for crisis also means opportunity, or a crucial point when something begins or changes?
When I went to write this month’s Monthly Visions I struggled for a few minutes, wondering how to approach the topic of this month in the most sensitive manner possible. I know many people are going through a hard time right now, yet I also know there is potential here for personal and global transformation unlike anything we have seen before. I think the opening sentence captures what I want to say perfectly.
I have always had a vision of these times, ever since I was a little girl. I remember looking around and wondering why the reality I saw around me – of people going to jobs they hated, countries at war with each other, companies polluting the Earth and getting away with it – was so readily accepted. I was particularly confused by the visions I saw of a completely different world, one in which we all lived in harmony with each other and with our planet. One in which people did what they loved to do every day, and created all the abundance they needed. A world in which we honoured creativity, diversity and peace.
For a long time I didn’t know whether these visions were memories of a past life, or premonitions of a future way of being. As I got older my knowing strengthened, and I knew (without knowing how I knew) that it was the latter. We were here, this time, this life, to create a new Earth, with new ways of being. I knew this with every bone in my body, and couldn’t be convinced otherwise. When people said to me “Not in this lifetime” I replied “Yes in this lifetime. Look around. Our environment, our political and corporate structures, our media, our humanity, cannot keep going the way we are going. They are not sustainable. We either have to change or it will all eventually collapse.” Again people argued that yes this change might happen, but not in our lifetime. Again I argued, “It has to be in our lifetime. The world cannot sustain this for too many more years.”
During my 20’s I came across the Mayan and Hopi prophecies about 2012 and they matched everything I knew without knowing how I knew. The prophecies speak of ‘the end of times’ when one cycle ends in preparation for another. Death and rebirth is a natural occurrence, we experience it every year with a new year, we experience it as we change jobs and relationships. It is not a bad thing, it is a positive thing. The only scary thing about change, usually, is the outcome is often unknown and as humans we have a fear of the unknown. So we tend to cling to our old realities for dear life, even if we have outgrown them, even if we know they are no longer good for us or healthy for us or serving us, even if we know the new is probably better, still we resist, still we are afraid: what if I let go and there is nothing there waiting for me?
No-one knows for sure what this new cycle will bring, but my feeling is this: that we are coming to a turning point, a fork in the road. We either keep going the way we have been, clinging to unsustainable forms of living, treating the Earth and our fellow inhabitants in the worst possible ways just to keep our unsustainable economic systems standing, and thus eventually cause the collapse of everything around us. Or, we change. We create new ways of being, we start treating the Earth and our fellow humans in a respectful way, we create new economic systems built on strong, ethical, socially and environmentally conscious foundations. We need systems that help raise people up, not keep them crushed down. In short, we need to move from a way of being that must look to more evolved planets like insanity, to a way of being that is worthy of who we all really are as individuals.
I think the date 2012 was given to us as a gift, so that when the time came we would know what was going on. So that we knew, okay this is not a time to panic, it is a time to get to work. It is not a time to cry and blame and get angry and try to desperately fix the falling old reality. It is a time to get up and get passionate and stick up your hand to say “Yes, I am ready to help build the new reality! Where do I start?”
Everywhere you look you see change now. Yet the kind of change you see will depend on your perspective. If you are fixated on the old reality, yes you will see chaos and people losing jobs and a media that tells you second by second how bad things are. Yet if your eyes are pinned on the new reality emerging, you will see people awakening, humanity becoming more and more conscious every day, a growing urgency to take care of the environment, an increasing intolerance for war as a way to solve problems, and thousands of positive media channels and teachers that are there to inspire you to step into your best self and create your best life.
You will see stories like the one I saw on television recently about the former banker who now drives a taxi cab in New York and LOVES it – he says it’s way more fun and less stressful than his former job. He feels relieved and released by his retrenchment, and he’s still making good money. You will read stories like the one I read in a magazine about a woman who lost her home due to foreclosure and is now so happy in her new home that she is renting for way less money a month. She was able to get something bigger with a huge backyard for her children, in a better location, without the stress of a high mortgage. She feels free and secure, and is able to relax into spending more time with her kids. Yes, it is only perspective that turns crisis into opportunity.
People are worried because these times are so turbulent. Guess what? They were never meant to be smooth! You cannot cross from one reality to another without a few waves. Our Earth and humanity is in the process of labour, birthing a new world. Ask any woman who has had a baby what this feels like! Yet those of us in the Western world aren’t taught to honour natural cycles like birth, death and rebirth. We get scared of them, and try to stop them or turn them into medical events. We call them ‘crises’ and we forget they are opportunities.
Have you ever renovated your house or even done a huge garage or attic clean up? What happens as you go from one step to the other? As you demolish your kitchen to put in a new one? As you throw out old, useless things to create a brand new light-filled space? Mess? Frustration? Yes! But when you’re done, wow, doesn’t it look great! Change isn’t always pretty, but that doesn’t mean it’s a negative thing. Quite to the contrary, it can be and usually is a good thing.
I have just spent some time in Guatemala and while there I was fortunate enough to participate in a Mayan Equinox Ceremony conducted by Mayan elder and priest Don Rigoberto. It was an amazing day organised by Spiritual Archeologist and author of Mayan Astrology Aluna Joy Yaxk’in who was down there with one of her regular tours (go to www.alunajoy.com for more info). I asked Don Rigoberto what the Maya had to say about the changing times and 2012. Don Rigoberto feels that all the indigenous nations need to come together with their various prophecies, so that we can get a more fuller understanding of what we might expect from these times. He agreed that the degree to which humanity can wake up in time, and the greater we all increase our levels of consciousness, will determine the way in which we move through our passage, (with grace or resistance) and what kind of reality awaits us on the other side. Don Rigoberto said that the best thing we can do is keep on our spiritual path through meditation, prayer and always doing things from the heart.
So, keep your eyes focused on where you want to go, on how you want your personal, and our collective, reality to look. Look at things from a different perspective, seeing the opportunity, seeing the positive. Above all, know that this change is a good thing. It’s not an easy process, but one way or other with grace we will get through it, and we will be something different, something better.

Death and rebirth is a natural occurrence, we experience it every year with a new year, we experience it as we change jobs and relationships. It is not a bad thing, it is a positive thing. The only scary thing about change, usually, is the outcome is often unknown and as humans we have a fear of the unknown. So we tend to cling to our old realities for dear life, even if we have outgrown them, even if we know they are no longer good for us or healthy for us or serving us, even if we know the new is probably better, still we resist, still we are afraid: what if I let go and there is nothing there waiting for me?
No-one knows for sure what this new cycle will bring, but my feeling is this: that we are coming to a turning point, a fork in the road. We either keep going the way we have been, clinging to unsustainable forms of living, treating the Earth and our fellow inhabitants in the worst possible ways just to keep our unsustainable economic systems standing, and thus eventually cause the collapse of everything around us. Or, we change. We create new ways of being, we start treating the Earth and our fellow humans in a respectful way, we create new economic systems built on strong, ethical, socially and environmentally conscious foundations. We need systems that help raise people up, not keep them crushed down. In short, we need to move from a way of being that must look to more evolved planets like insanity, to a way of being that is worthy of who we all really are as individuals.
I think the date 2012 was given to us as a gift, so that when the time came we would know what was going on. So that we knew, okay this is not a time to panic, it is a time to get to work. It is not a time to cry and blame and get angry and try to desperately fix the falling old reality. It is a time to get up and get passionate and stick up your hand to say “Yes, I am ready to help build the new reality! Where do I start?”
Everywhere you look you see change now. Yet the kind of change you see will depend on your perspective. If you are fixated on the old reality, yes you will see chaos and people losing jobs and a media that tells you second by second how bad things are. Yet if your eyes are pinned on the new reality emerging, you will see people awakening, humanity becoming more and more conscious every day, a growing urgency to take care of the environment, an increasing intolerance for war as a way to solve problems, and thousands of positive media channels and teachers that are there to inspire you to step into your best self and create your best life.
You will see stories like the one I saw on television recently about the former banker who now drives a taxi cab in New York and LOVES it – he says it’s way more fun and less stressful than his former job. He feels relieved and released by his retrenchment, and he’s still making good money. You will read stories like the one I read in a magazine about a woman who lost her home due to foreclosure and is now so happy in her new home that she is renting for way less money a month. She was able to get something bigger with a huge backyard for her children, in a better location, without the stress of a high mortgage. She feels free and secure, and is able to relax into spending more time with her kids. Yes, it is only perspective that turns crisis into opportunity.
People are worried because these times are so turbulent. Guess what? They were never meant to be smooth! You cannot cross from one reality to another without a few waves. Our Earth and humanity is in the process of labour, birthing a new world. Ask any woman who has had a baby what this feels like! Yet those of us in the Western world aren’t taught to honour natural cycles like birth, death and rebirth. We get scared of them, and try to stop them or turn them into medical events. We call them ‘crises’ and we forget they are opportunities.
Have you ever renovated your house or even done a huge garage or attic clean up? What happens as you go from one step to the other? As you demolish your kitchen to put in a new one? As you throw out old, useless things to create a brand new light-filled space? Mess? Frustration? Yes! But when you’re done, wow, doesn’t it look great! Change isn’t always pretty, but that doesn’t mean it’s a negative thing. Quite to the contrary, it can be and usually is a good thing.
I have just spent some time in Guatemala and while there I was fortunate enough to participate in a Mayan Equinox Ceremony conducted by Mayan elder and priest Don Rigoberto. It was an amazing day organised by Spiritual Archeologist and author of Mayan Astrology Aluna Joy Yaxk’in who was down there with one of her regular tours (go to www.alunajoy.com for more info). I asked Don Rigoberto what the Maya had to say about the changing times and 2012. Don Rigoberto feels that all the indigenous nations need to come together with their various prophecies, so that we can get a more fuller understanding of what we might expect from these times. He agreed that the degree to which humanity can wake up in time, and the greater we all increase our levels of consciousness, will determine the way in which we move through our passage, (with grace or resistance) and what kind of reality awaits us on the other side. Don Rigoberto said that the best thing we can do is keep on our spiritual path through meditation, prayer and always doing things from the heart.
So, keep your eyes focused on where you want to go, on how you want your personal, and our collective, reality to look. Look at things from a different perspective, seeing the opportunity, seeing the positive. Above all, know that this change is a good thing. It’s not an easy process, but one way or other with grace we will get through it, and we will be something different, something better.

March 2009 Monthly Visions: The Medellin Miracle
March 2009: The Medellin Miracle
I love it when life surprises us with unexpected turns and information. Throughout our travels in South America we have consistently encountered people who have just come from Colombia, highly recommending it as a safe, friendly, beautiful country. This was far from the image of Colombia we had heard about over the years: a dangerous country to travel in due to the heavy drug trade, paramilitary squads and mafia hitmen. Yet when even a friends' mother-in-law from Lima said how much she loved it, we decided to give it a go.
Medellin, Colombia, where I have just spent some time, was known as the most violent city in the world with up to 500 people killed a month thanks to the local war waged by Pablo Escobar (1949-1993). Escobar’s Medellin cartel once controlled 80% of the global cocaine market, and the 1989 Forbes Rich List named Escobar as the seventh richest man in the world. He is infamous for everything from being a ‘Robin Hood’ for the people, responsible for building churches, sports fields and housing projects, to the extreme violence he used to send a message, along with being the reason thousands of people were left to grieve family members who didn’t survive the daily shoot-outs, unable to sleep at night because of the gunfire.
A government negotiation offering a reduced sentence and preferential treatment in exchange for Escobar’s surrender, his murder in 1993 and the positive social and cultural impact of the Metro train lines which started in the years following all played a part in what has become known as ‘the Medellin Miracle’. Today Medellin is unrecognisable to what it must have been like at the height of Escobar’s power, and during the years that followed.
An article in last month’s Cornell Chronicle talks about the most recent changes saying: In 2003 Sergio Fajardo was elected mayor seeking to ‘destroy the walls that separate us.” He vowed to reduce violence and restore hope to the city. He was convinced that education was the key to social transformation, and placed 4000 young people in training programs. He hired architects to build library parks, entrepreneurship centres and science museums. He increased the education budget to build new schools and refurbish old ones. Fajardo left office in 2007 with an 89% reduction in the annual murder rate, and is now a presidential hopeful. (McCoy) A new slogan they have started using to attract tourists is: “The only risk with Colombia is that you’ll never want to leave.”
Medellin happened to be featured in my inflight magazine on the way there and I was intrigued to read about one of its poorest areas, Santo Domingo. It used to be a former popular recruiting ground for guerrilla groups and hired hitmen targeting those desperate for daily survival money. It now has a weapons exchange program, where people receive a musical instrument for every weapon they hand in, programs for reintegration education and job creation, and a new public library and park, transforming Santo Domingo into a clean, safe, friendly neighbourhood. (Cuevas) A stroll through the Carabobo, a wide, clean corso in down town Medellin, filled with amazing bronze sculptures, features striking posters stating: “Violence will not return to my city.” The people have had enough, and you can literally feel the zero tolerance energy held in the air by the majority of citizens for any drugs or violence.
Why have I shared this story here today? The story of the ‘Medellin Miracle’ is living proof of the beliefs I have always held. That change is possible, when enough people demand it. That where there is hope there is potential for the creation of a new reality, entirely different to the one previously experienced. We are living in difficult times, yes. The economy, climate change, wars, we all know about the situations we are facing. Yet, in answer to anyone who believes we are on a downhill slope with no way of saving ourselves I offer this story of Medellin as a source of not only inspiration, but real life physical evidence that a complete turnaround is possible. Walking through the streets I could have been in any cosmopolitan European city. Interacting with locals you could imagine they had never seen anything more violent than a speck of road rage. I wondered how many loved ones each of them had lost, in one way or another. I wondered how you move on from a past like that?
As I felt into their energy during my days there I realised that they must have had a choice; To stay bonded to their past, wrapping themselves up in anger, grief and feeling isolated from a world afraid to come anywhere near them, or to move forward with a fresh start and try completely new ways of living. Educating their children, using the Metro to get outside their former worlds and opening to new jobs and social centres, uniting as a community, all of these things have helped perform the ‘miracle’.
So too, our whole world right now needs a miracle. Yet this miracle won’t just fall out of the sky, we the people need to create it. We all have our part to play, and if the only thing you do is believe that a miracle is possible then that’s your contribution right there. Next time you catch yourself thinking that the world, or your finances, or your job situation, or the wars, or poverty or anything else you are worried about, is in too much of a mess to change for the positive, then think about Medellin. ‘Mess’ is simply a sign that whatever we were doing before isn’t working. So, it’s time to get out our brooms and start sweeping. It’s time to get out our ideals, hopes and visions and start dreaming. If the people of Medellin can move forward, so can you. If a whole city can change, then many cities can change. If many cities can change, then the world can too. Everything is possible.

This Month the guides wanted me to talk about the Physical Allowance (or Dis-Allowance) of our Higher Energies. The energies are there, but we are the ones that have to let them in, and we are the ones that keep them out.
