Equinox: honouring birth and death

September 23 is always a special day for our family. It’s the anniversary of my mum’s passing, and my partner Christian’s birthday. People sometimes ask is it strange to have those two things on the same day. I always say no, it more feels like a poignant reminder of the cycle of life.  People are being born every day, and people leave this Earth every day. Experiencing the death of someone close to you often makes you have a stronger connection to life and living, as you truly realise that your time here is not forever. So this annual honouring of a birth and a death is really a simultaneous honouring and celebration of life.
Quite fittingly, it co-incides with the Equinox when day and night are equal in length. I like this energetic influence, adding to the reminder that on this see-saw of life we can find a harmony and balance when we look at the value of all things rather than putting them in categories of ‘good’ and ‘bad’.  The Equinox asks us to respect both sides of the see-saw: winter has a purpose, grief can be cleansing and transformational.
Equinox and all of Nature also teaches us that life keeps moving, all the time. Equinox only lasts 24 hours before the days start getting longer (or shorter depending on which hemisphere you’re in).  We are shown that nothing lasts forever so appreciate what you have while you have it. We are also shown that no matter how bad things look or feel, ‘this too shall pass’. Spring always follows winter, and the sun always rises even after the darkest of nights.
Our mum had a big heart, and now in the non-physical I know she has even bigger wings, ready to help anyone who asks just as she did in life. One of her greatest wishes was to make her healings ‘bigger, bigger’, and so most years on this day I say to everyone who needs it: if you need a mum hug, or some healing vibes from someone who had a knack of never judging anyone, ask for Miki upstairs. She’s the one with all the jingly jewellery, giggling away.

Follow your inner nudges

Christian enrolled into an intuitive awareness course today, which is something he has wanted to do for a while. The registration lady on the phone remarked that the class this term is nearly all men which was unusual. I loved hearing that!

We are all moving into a greater balance now with our inner feminine and masculine energies, feeling really strong urges to do things that we have either been putting off or not even considered doing until now. I have been getting major nudges to get out into the garden, to plant herbs, fruit trees and flowers, to re-pot plants, and this past weekend I finally got out there. It felt so good, and I can't wait for my next gardening day.

If you have been getting some inner nudge to do something, you can be sure that it is coming from some inner part of you that is wanting to flow, wanting a voice, wanting to be expressed, wanting you to experience a greater state of balance, and even a greater state of health and wellbeing. Following our inner nudges allows more of our soul to be revealed, and from there we more easefully and naturally move toward relationships, work, and lifestyles that are in alignment with who we really are.

What are you being nudged to do lately?

Are you living on 'Rush' Time?

This week, a busier than usual week with Jax's 2nd birthday + party coming up on the weekend, more than ever I'm taking one moment at a time - and trying to do that without the usual 'relentless mental pace' that apparently has been going on behind the scenes of what I thought was a fairly calm self!

I was doing some art journalling yesterday as Day 1's exercise in Jelena Mrkich's Return to Self course and realised how regularly my mind is rushing me through things during the day, and the kind of pressure that creates in my emotional body. It was a big surprise because I really thought I had left that issue behind when Jax was born as he created much needed work/rest/play balance in my life, and truly I have a lot of rest and play time with him each day. But even so, even with a good dose of 'now time' living, apparently there is still a lot of me operating on 'rush time'.

It really was a big 'what the!?' moment when I realised that apparently, according to my art journalling, I need to just BREATHE more often and BE in the moment because that CONNECTS me to ME and to Source - you know, what I suggest to you to do all the time! I thought I WAS doing that, but my Subconscious, via my art journalling, says no! More breathing, less mental rushing, okay got it!

Just goes to show that our inner being has a lot to tell us about ourselves when we make the time to stop and listen. That's another thing that I'm always on about, so here I am, listening.

So, if I'm not around as much this week it may be because I've decided to shut the computer and just breathe. Either that or I'm out shopping for Hoot the Owl party supplies:)

How are you all with mental rushing vs breathing/being? (And it's a very revealing exercise to journal or art journal about this because how you think you are isn't necessarily how you are!)
